Frugal Tip Friday - make your own lotion and a city girl stops by to tell us how she saves!

Happy Frugal Tip Friday! Today I'm going to tell you about the easiest way to save money on your lotion. Its so easy and inexpensive I made it just last night! I used it last night after a shower and this morning on my face and it feels just like the stuff I spend 15$ on at the store...but it only costs $4 to make!

You will need:

1 cup of olive oil (or any other type of oil that you would like)
2 tablespoons of beeswax (or a small comb)
3 vitamin E pills (for preservative)

I got my olive oil from Whole Foods grocery, but you can get it anywhere they sell it and I bought my beeswax at the Union Square local farmers market. With the vitamin E gel capsules, I had some of those in our bathroom cabinet, so I just used those!

You will need a double burner or I used a steamer with a oven/fire safe bowl to place your beeswax and olive oil in.

First, turn on your stove. Place 1 cup olive oil in bowl. Place vitamin E oil  and beeswax piece or pieces in bowl with olive oil. Let the mixture heat up for about 45 minutes or until the beeswax is completely dissolved in the oil.

Finally when the mixture is completely mixed together, turn off the heat. You can use a clean spoon to spoon the mixture into a glass bottle or a plastic pot. Its great if you have a lid so that no dust etc gets into the mixture. I poured mine into an old essential oil glass bottle and put plastic wrap overtop of the leftover lotion in the bowl. I think it would've worked better if I had a funnel or a larger glass pot to put the lotion in. I'm looking into getting something like that!

This was a fun experiment and is saving me a ton! No more lotions with chemical additives that I can't pronounce and no more spending way too much on lotions! And my skin feels super smooth after using it too!

And today we have Rebecca Tosa stopping by. Rebecca lives in NYC and balances her first year of college with an internship! Rebecca gives this advice on how to save:

1- Make sure to have no cash on you. It is best to put it all in the bank.  2- Don't buy unneccessary things. Its easy to buy things on a whim that you really don't need so wait a few days before your big purchases! 3- Try to eat in and not eat out. I save most of my money by eating at home and making my own food. Restaurants can be so expensive and you can have the same or even better tasting food at home! 4- Believe you're always broke. You'll think before you spend!

Thanks Rebecca for stopping by!
