Pittsburgh Pa March 2007

Pittsburgh Pa in March is so much fun, but I have to recommend that if you are thinking of going, I would go when it is a bit warmer. One day we had rain and the the next, more rain, which made the lukewarm weather feel cooler. The first place we visited was called the Cathedral of Learning. Its located in the center of Pittsburgh at 4200 5th Avenue and there is no admission. Here is a picture of what the outside looks like.

The inside looked very harry potteryish!! They actually have people who study in the rooms and in the study areas!!
Inside they had these rooms called Nationality Rooms, where students at the University of Pittsburgh could come and study their usual subjects (math, english, or whatever) but study them in a classroom environment like one in Syria-Lebanon, Scotland, or England, etc! It was the coolest thing to see. It reminded me of taking theatre classes at Marymount...the teacher would just be like, we should sit outside today, and so we would sit outside in the grass for class (not exactly like the class environment of another country, lol, but it still reminded me of it!!)

Next, we went to the Pittsburgh Museum of Art, where Stef, who goes to the University of Pitt, gets to take her classes! Why don't all schools do that? That would be like at MMC, taking classes at the MET! Anyways, here is a pic from there. Its beautiful inside, kind of looks like the Cloisters in the Bronx,NY.

Here is a painting by Nicholas Lochoff, after Domenico del Ghirlandaio, called the Birth of the Virgin, the original is in the Santa Maria Novella in Florence.

Here is a painting, love this one! I'm sure you've heard of it, this is also by Nicholas Lochoff after Alessandro Botticelli, The Birth of Venus, original is in Uffizi, Florence.

Next, we went to the Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens located at One Schenley Park in Pittsburgh. Here's a pic looking up at Martin and John, lol.
Here are a few pictures from inside the gardens:
They had an orchid room. I was reading that orchids resemble what they want to attract...some of them look like the insects they are looking to attract!! Kind of scary, but I guess it makes sense in nature.

The healer's hut in the middle of the garden.
Hope you get a chance to see these cool places!!! Thanks for reading!
