Frugal Tip Friday - a little love for your flowers

Todays Frugal Tip Friday is for your indoor flowers or herbs. The other day I was feeling really springy so I stopped at the market and picked up some daffodils, some oregano and some rosemary. When I got home I realized it was too cold to plant them outside in our over-the-railing containers on our balcony, so I needed something to place them in inside until it gets warm enough to plant outside that would make sure that when I watered them, the water didn't come spewing out from the bottom holes of the plastic containers. I didn't have any extra pots for the flowers to plant inside and purchasing a flower pot can run upwards of 10$ to 15$, and I just needed a little fix until the weather got warmer so I didn't want to spend anything! And I kept thinking and thinking...then I opened the cabinet and found some mugs. They work pretty well. I just filled 1/4 way full with water and placed the flower/herb in the cup.

But I still had the rosemary left and was out of clean mugs ( I have to do dishes badly! lol) So I thought...why not use a teapot? I have 3, so using 2 wasn't a big deal. The two that I used I purchased from Marshalls awhile back for about 10 dollars each. First, I took the teapot and filled with 1/4 way full with cool water, then I took the rosemary plant that was in a plastic container (those are what they usually come in) with its plastic container and placed it in the opening of the teapot. I was alittle worried it wouldn't fit, but the beauty of the plastic container is that it just molded into the shape of the teapot hole pretty easily.

The teapot idea is perfect because of the drainage. Alot of times I overwater plants, so with this, the excess water just drains down and out into the teapot.

With the second rosemary plant I wasn't so lucky. The container was a biodegradeable (which normally is awesome) plastic, so when I tried to meld it to the teapots shape, it broke. I just filled the teapot 1/4 ways with soil, placed the rosemary inside, and then filled in the rest of the space around the rosemary with soil. That seems to work, I don't know what I'll do when it comes time to plant outside though! I may  just have to keep it indoors.
