I'm participating in aefilkins friend Makin Mondays and her topic today is
What are your favorite candle/scents?
My absolute favorite scent candle for the holidays is the Christmas wreath candle! When I was little, and even today now that I think about it, my dad would work over at the nearby flower shoppe to make extra money for Christmas gifts. As my sister and I got older, we both were able to work there too, only I made football shaped blankets for graves (I know kinda morbid but it helped me make extra cash for Christmas gifts too!) That became a part of our Christmas every year, and I remember the smells of the greens as my dad and I would cut them and put them into the styrofome that would eventually become a big beautiful decoration for the governors party or for the someone else's fancy decoration. We had these gloves that we'd wear, and my dad had an extra pair of cutters I used. I remember thinking, wow if I get 2 dollars per blanket, and I make 150, thats 300$ I could spend 300 bucks for Christmas gifts! It was a great feeling. In the back of the shop, where we were, it was colder so you had to keep your jackets on because of all the going in and out to get greens and there were a quite a few Mexican workers who would weave these gorgeous intricate baskets. I don't know how much they were paid, but I'm sure it wasn't enough. We'd have the jacked up radio blasting with an antenna turned in crazy directions trying to pick up a signal and eventually they taught me to speak some Spanish and I taught them a little English, and my sister and I would get dropped off, she'd go to the decoration team's front area, and I'd go to the back to my friends and I'd wave and say ola, como estas and start cutting the greens to a cool song playing on the jacked up radio. So here's my favorite scent for the holidays:)
I also love the scent of Christmas trees. Like the real evergreens that you buy and bring into the house and put in water, decorate and get to smell all winter long. Sitting in front of a real tree with a cup of chai probably tops my favorite things to do for the holidays. I know its a simple thing, but I'm mostly a simple girl:) When we were little we didn't have much but my mom would always make sure we have a real tree. I remember she would budget things and come hell or high water there always had to be that extra 40$ for a real tree.
The worst scent is buttercream. This one reminds me of those jellybeans with all the flavors, it smells like the butter ones, yuck!
Thanks for taking the time to stop by! Go to Amber's page and join in the party! :)

Uh-oh. I love Buttercream candles. My favorite scent this time of year is Christmas Cookie. I like all the food scented ones.
ReplyDeleteRight now I'm obsessed with the Country Apple scent of the bath and body works classics of course I could rub it all over my body but my apt wouldnt smell like that unless I stayed home, so I got a Yankee Mcintosh room scent that makes me smile when I come home.
