With all this frugal living happening, when I ran out of shampoo last night I knew if I thought hard enough I would come across a way to make my own! And, to my surprise I did! It is super easy and simple to make your own shampoo. I came across a few recipes that were just boil hot water, add soap pieces and you have shampoo! I went alittle further and added some handmade soap pieces and vegetable glycerin.
All you need to make your own shampoo and save the 5$-15$ you would spend on shampoo like this
is:
1- 2 cups water, 2 tablespoons vegetable glycerin (available at any health food store and/or grocery store), 1/2 cup soap shavings from a good bar of soap (preferably all natural like Burts Bees or (my shameless plug) Olive your Beeswax.
First - place 2 cups water into pan and bring to boil. When the water starts boiling, turn down the heat to warm.
Next, you will want to take a bar of soap and carve off about a 1/2 cup of soap slivers. I would pick out a good bar, since this will be going on your hair. After this, you can turn the heat up alittle hotter and mix the soap slivers into the water with a spoon. When it looks like the soap slivers and mostly dissolved, turn the heat off. (Very Important! I didn't and when I added the vegetable glycerin, it overflowed and let's just say I was stuck for awhile cleaning the top of the stove, but I didn't need soap! :)) Turn off the heat and stir in 2 tablespoon of vegetable glycerin. Let sit until the mixture cools.
