Frugal tip friday - for your underarms:)

I have a few deoderants at home. One is a regular with the aluminum ingredient that there is so much controversy over right now about whether it causes altheimerz,  and one is the all natural Tom's of Maine deoderant without aluminum. I love Tom's of Maine, but it does cost more than the regular aluminum kind. I stopped using deoderant after the gym because I didn't want to use the aluminum kind and didn't want to take the one from at home and not have one there and didn't want to spend so much on the good kind of deoderant a second time, (yeah that wasn't working out!). I went home one time and gave Martin a hug and he was like whew and put my arms down for the rest of the hug! I thought I have to do something! This is ruining our hugs!  I decided it was time to make my own deoderant.

Meeting up with Laura from lavender labyrinth was perfect timing as she told me about how she had made her own natural deoderant and let me try hers! The texture wasn't like normal deoderant and it wasn't as easy as just rubbing under the arms, but it worked fine and smelled so fresh with the tea tree oil scent! I think thats a part of being frugal and living simply, finding new ways to live that might not be as convenient but are healthier for the person using, for the environment and definetly cheaper too! I changed a few ingredients to suit what I have at home in the cupboards, but here it is - the recipe to make your own deoderant!

Handmade Natural Deoderant -

1/4 cup baking soda
1/4 cup tapioca starch (you can also use corn starch)
2 tablespoons for coconut oil
1/2 tablespoons of tea tree oil (and I can still smell the tea tree oil in our apt!)
you can also add vitamin E oil, but I was out

Mix all ingredients together and you get this:
Place it in a container. If you like a more thick consistency you can add more starch. You can use a pot or an empty deoderant container.
I hope you like it! Happy Frugal Tip Friday and Friendly Friday!

Nikki

***** I put alittle finger dot under my right arm after the gym, and right now my right and left underarms are smelling very different! One smells like tea tree oil and mentholy for some reason and the other, well, smells like I didn't use anything:) Its goopy but it totally works!!! ****
