Frugal Tip Friday - some lusciousness for your lips!

I ran out of my favorite lip gloss yesterday. You know the one that you use throughout the day and makes your lips feel and look moisturized and plump enough? That one! And this lip gloss I got from a promotional company that was giving them away, so its not something that I can buy again. So I thought...why spend money and time searching for another favorite lip gloss when I can just make my own with the same ingredients as my already favorite one!? Lip glosses can charge up to 25$ for a tube, and can have loads of preservatives and petrolium, which has been linked to clogged pores and the buildup of toxins. So I got to work.  Note: you will need about 10 minutes to make this!

The ingredients included in the small tube of gloss were the following: speariment oil, beeswax, vitamin E oil, olive oil, coconut oil and sunflower oil.  I had beeswax in my freezer from a purchase at a local farmers market from a few months back, that costed 5$.
If you'd like to purchase some but don't have a farmers market nearby, this farm sells some.
You can add or subtract a few of the oils based on what you like, but I had coconut oil, sunflower oil and olive oil in the kitchen and vitamin E capsules in the medicine cabinet in the bathroom, so thats what I used.

I didn't want the flavoring of speariment oil but I did want some kind of color added into the gloss, so I picked up a can of beets for $1.50 from the grocery store.

First, I used the double burner. I put a heat safe bowl with 1 big tablespoon of beeswax in it into the pot and turned up the fire.

The beeswax began to melt, next I added about a 1/2 tablespoon of sunflower oil, then coconut oil, then olive oil, along with the vitamin E oil from 2 capulses. I turned the mixture and then added a tablespoon of beet juice I drained from the can. Its important to add these ingredients to the beeswax while its heating so that everything combines nicely! If you add it after you take the beeswax off the heat, it will clump. So after you've mixed your gloss, you can just pour the mixture into a small glass jar (I washed an old lip gloss jar and just reused that one!)  and wahla!!! You've made your own completely natural lip gloss for maybe a total of 10$ for ingredients (of which will last you all year!)

  5. Shessh! I so want to make some now. Mostly because I lose my chap stick/gloss about 16 times a year and have to buy new. this would save me money in the long run- and no, I'd NEVER spend upwards of $25 on lipgloss!! Thanks, as always, for a great tip!

  11. I had to come back and comment because this lady was on the show, The Shark Tank, and she had a product (it was a piece of plastic) that you take your 3 favorite lipstick shades (once you've used them up) and melt them in the microwave and pour it in this plastic tube and then viola you have a brand new lipstick. You have to google it.
