A blissful tool from Heaven

For my birthday gift to myself, I decided to get a new vacuum. And we needed one, like desperately. With puppy hair and little bits of dog food sporadically found on the floor, I knew I wanted a good vacuum that would last, be light and easy to use. This was so important to me to get that I didn't mind using some birthday money for it. I'll give you a little back story, our vacuum, (that wasn't great firstly) broke, it was a dirt devel small one that Martin had when I moved in. After it broke, Martin's dad gave me an old industrial vacuum with just a suction hose so while vacuuming I had to basically be on my hands and knees and just use my hands and move the suction thing around along the floor to vacuum. A few times I borrowed Martin's moms vacuum which worked okay, but not great. I didn't mind though because I appreciated using theirs and I really didn't know too much different. Before that in the apartment I lived in with girlfriends, we had a small dirt devel too with not too many rugs to clean and no puppy to get things really dirty (and no husband to get more things dirty!) I figured it was time to get a REAL vacuum. I searched through websites at Sears, JC Penney and a few others. One that I saw was only 60$ but the reviews said things like "You get what you pay for" and "After 2 uses there was barely any suction".  I wanted better this time. Since this was like my birthday present to myself, I wanted to give and receive something that would last and that I was happy to take out and vacuum with (not that money equals quality all the time I just wanted a good one!)  I came across the one, its a Kenmore Premalite Vacuum with Hepa filters and is bagless and its beautiful and light green and gray. I received it this weekend, tore open the box and used it. It was absolutely blissful. No need to bend over to get in any nooks, just press a little button and pop out the tool, do I need to press a button to turn on suction in the tool? or add another tool? Nope nada, just pop it off and use! It was so light and had such a long cord, I did the whole apartment, except the bedroom, without having to change plugs. I could look at the clear spinning dust collector and watch the huge amount acculumate and spin around until it turned into one large dust ball. Did I have to pull out a pan and dump and make sure the dust didn't get all over me? Nope! I did have to pull out the pan but it stayed closed until I brought it to the garbage and opened it a crack, to slowly empty everything. Ahhhhhhhhh is all I can say after using this. Usually I'm annoyed at vacuuming because it never picks up everything, is heavy, is annoying (and the vacuum was not a pretty color) and it scares Lealu. She jumps on the couch and gets scared and then usually ends up hiding in the bathroom. And then I get more annoyed that I have to use a crappy vacuum. This vacuum is so quiet, Martin actually thought something was stuck in it, he had to come over lift it and look! Lealu just sat on the couch and watched. I think I might've even been smiling while I was vacuuming lol, maybe even singing, but I couldn't tell you! I was completely in my own little heaven. Its amazing how just a new vacuum can change my whole day:) ahhhh it was just blissful, thats the only word I can use for it because it perfectly describes my feeling. Blissful.  I'm having trouble downloading the picture, but here is the link if you want to take a look at the picture!  The Great Indoors.

  6. Hmmm. I may have to check that out. I got a light weight Eureka. It does a good job but the cord is too short as is the hose.

  7. I understand completely- I bought a new one last year and I researched it like I researched where to go to college!! I love mine too. I got a Kenmore Progressive with Direct drive. My favorite thing about it is that it has a special sensor that tells you how dirty where your vacuuming is. So even when it looks like the area is clean, the sensor will go red id it knows it's still vacuuming more microscopic dust! It has showed me that I need to go over the same area a lot more than I would have thought to get it really clean...

PS. Did you get your b-day present?

  8. Hey, it's the little things in life!

We have all hardwoods, which is not as easy to maintain as I thought. We found a Swiffer vac that is great for hardwoods, but it has a very short battery life and you can't really replace the battery once it starts to not hold much of a charge. So you're buying a new one every six months or so, which is no biggie, since it's pretty cheap.
