Laughing does a body good and blog awards!

Today I want to talk about the most healing thing you can do for yourself, Laugh!! I mean really Laugh! like till you cry laugh. Don't you just love those kinds? Yesterday at work, things were getting a little crazy and I found myself in an extra giggly mood. We have our customer service week and a few extra people out yesterday so we had to be on our best behavior while answering non stop questions. So I get this call from a customer and heres how it went -

Man - Hello, I'd like the shoot on the Ferry and I have (let's just say) Helen's number.

Me - Okay sir, how can I help you? (I'm wondering why he's calling when there are 4 other lines ringing and a person standing in front of me waiting)

Man - Well I'd like to shoot in Ferry but the number I have is not working, but I'd like to speak to Helen.

Me - Ok, you'd like to shoot at Ferry and and you need Helen's number?

Man - Yes, I'd like to shoot atFerry but I don't know who's number I should call.

Me - (now I'm getting giggly) Okay well let's see who's number you should call. (I look it up in contact book, the name is Helen's and it says disconnected with no other number, I get back on the phone with still the phone ringing and the person waiting) Hello sir?

Man - Hello, I'd like the number to the Helen at the Ferry.

Me - (now I just start laughing, I can't help it, I just start CRACKING UP. So I say) Please hold. (I laugh and laugh and laugh, and take a deep breath) Helen's number is 222-2222. You can try to give her a call.

Man - Thank you. (hangs up)

Alittle while later I call my husband and we ask how days are going etc. I try to tell him the the story while telling him that the real estate broker emailed me with the new contract to lower the property price we're selling (background the real estate broker is kind of being a jerk and every time he talks to us wants us to lower the price, to make it easier to sell probably)

Me - I was talking to this guy today (I start laughing)
Him - What happened? (in a serious tone maybe thinking something is wrong)
Me - And he kept asking for someone's number and (I'm laughing) whew I'm giggly.
Him - Are you okay?
Me - Yeah, nevermind that story, I'll tell you later.
Him - Ok.
Me - Oh blank emailed me from the real estate company.
Him - Oh cool. what did he say?
Me - He says we're **&holes. (I really don't know where this is coming from, but after I say this, I just cannot I mean cannot carry on a conversation anymore. I'm laughing and crying after this point.)
Him - (just waits quielty on the other end while I go through my laughing crying time, in the past when this has happened, he just sits quielty waiting for me to come back to my sanity and stop laughing, and its so cute how serious he is, he just sits there.
Me - (imagining his serious look while he's completely silent on the other end)
Silence.
Him - Are you okay now?
Me - (start cracking up again)
Him - Just sits there in silence waiting.
Me - (put the phone down, take a few deep breaths and now I'm okay. I read the email to him. and my sanity comes back)

Giggly moods and laughing till I cry just makes me feel so great! It must be a release of energy from the day:)

Here is blurb about laughing -
"We now know that laughter and positive emotion help blood vessels function better. The inner lining of blood vessels (the endothelium) has a powerful effect on blood vessel tone, regulates blood flow and, in general, plays an important role in cardiovascular disease development. When the endothelium dilates, blood flow is increased - and when it constricts, blood flow is decreased. The principal investigator of this study, Michael Miller, M.D. is the director of preventive cardiology at the University of Maryland Medical Center and associate professor of medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Dr. Miller claims that "the endothelium is the first line in the development of atherosclerosis or hardening of the arteries, so, given the results of our study, it is conceivable that laughing may be important to maintain a healthy endothelium, and reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease."

  1. Wow, thanks! I put it on my page. As for humor therapy, there was a class somewhere where people got together just to laugh. It was supposedly good for the abs, as well as the person's disposition.

There are plenty of times I've sat cracking up, almost dying from not being able to breathe while trying to tell Hubs a story and he just looks at me with a blank face.
    Makes me laugh even harder!
